Write a reflective essay on the materials we've been studying and investigating, on the theme, Does ClassREALLYMatter?
Think back over our materials, The Samaritan, Rachel and Her Children, your readings in Studs Terkel's Working, and also the video Affluenza, which we'll watch the last class.
You might include your thoughts about
How does the public identify members of class? Are these methods always accurate?
What is the effect of Homelessness on Families and Children? Include what you found in your brief research project.
What have we seen about the effects of different jobs, related to both self-respect and the respect of others. Are people always happier in higher status jobs?
What is the effect of housing segregation by class on the nature of society and a sense of community?
Are we overburdened by wanting "stuff" and do the things we possess effect our sense of self?
Do you think things are getting better, worse, or about the same?
Is there anything which can be done to improve the situation?
Feel free to use any of the materials for which I've provided links throughout the semester.
