I'm writing this in retrospect. We finished the musical, Working, which we were unable to finish on Thursday due to technical problems on Thursday. Then we had a short discussion of the musical (for some reason, all our discussions have been short). Then I explained where I wanted to go next with this.
- I showed you two lists. The first was the list of all Studs Terkel Characters which had been chosen by Students. Those chosen are highlighted in red. The other was the list of all Studs Characters, organized by the Student who had chosen them. I noted that some had not chosen any characters yet. While some had only chosen one or two. I invited those who had chosen just a few to choose more if they wished, and asked those who had chosen none at all to choose 4-5 from those not yet chosen. This was so I could update the list.
- I told you what I wanted to have happen was a series of rountable discussions led by you, the students. you would organize yourselves into groups of 4-5 people, and each select one of your choices to put into the conversation, and e-mail the rest of the class, so they could read about those particular characters and discus them from any number of perspectives, such as how they felt about their work, what pleased them, what displeased them, etc. When that was completed, I was to be e-mailed so I could complete this page, and get everyone on the same track, if possible.
We'll see how lucking we are (or are not). I'm really hoping to get started on this but I can't do it by myself. If we're ready, we're ready. If not, I'll have something else up my sleeve (besides my arm).
