I don't think I'll show up next Monday!
After all, it is Spring Break
Cat Stevens, the English Folk Singer who created "Morning has Broken,"  back in the middle 1970's.  He left the music scene for many years, fighting addictions and depression, suffered a near drowning incident, and converted to Islam.  He's touring the States again this year.  Click on the image for a story from Rolling Stone Magazine.
I don't think I'll show up next Thursday, either!
After all, it is still Spring Break
Two songs which practically defined the hippie generation, from the musical and movie, Hair.  Happy Spring Break, and maybe we'll actually see some sunshine and grass by the time we get back.
Do take the time to watch the whole production.  I apologize for the production quality the film is presented only limited versions because of copyright issues and I thought you mght bet more out of this college production from Florida International University.  I'm pretty sure you can get the dvd of the film from the library for a more continuous version of it.  You'll see many examples of themes based on class in the film.  I hope we'll have time to talk about some of them.  This was a powerful  assault on America's foreign policy, too, and what, at that time, had been America's longest war.
When we return, we'll finish our visit to the upper class by watching a film produced by Jamie Johnson, heir to the Johnson and Johnson fortune, entitled, Born Rich.  More about it in the website for the week after the break.  I'll post the syllabus for the week after Spring Break in a few days, and send you an e-mail when it is ready.
